Discovery Suite

The 'Discovery Suite' - a place to explore and discover!

At  Sun  Hill  Junior  School, our children have daily access to our library, known as the 'Discovery Suite'; they are either able to read over the lunchtime session depending on which year group has access over this time, or they will be joined by their class teacher for a Discovery Suite session in the afternoon.  All year groups can change their library books daily. However, the library rota is currently divided between upper and lower school on alternate days to ensure children who wish to access a quiet space may do so on their day.

This year we have introduced a 'New Authors' carousel in the Fiction side of the Discovery Suite in order to encourage children to try books they may not usually choose!

Our pupils have access to a wealth of information. They are able to support their home learning or class research by using books in our Non-fiction area as well as being able to use the internet via our netbooks.

In the Winter and Spring terms the library is extremely popular and there is a rota for each year group in order to keep the numbers of pupils within the ‘Discovery Suite’ to a safe level.  During the Summer and first half of the Autumn Term, when the weather is usually warmer, the timetable changes to allow all year groups to read in the reading area on a daily basis.  It is at this time that children can use our courtyard for outdoor reading under the shade of sun umbrellas.

The Discovery Suite also has a number of Pupil Librarians who assist children whilst they are on their computers, or if they are struggling to take a book out.  They also help children to find books as well as helping Mrs Mitchell in many library tasks.
